Non-verbal messaging innovation

  • Our client wanted to explore the next generation of instant messaging services that gratify people’s communications needs “beyond-text”, particularly in cultures like Indonesia where there is an antagonism towards text heavy communications

    We used a mix of ‘top down’ and ‘bottom up’ approaches, including interviews with linguists, anthropologists & ‘non-verbal practitioners’, and also text analysis of real conversations on social media

    Through this project we learnt about the role of intonation and gestures in conveying emotions, as well as the rules of interaction defined by social structures, and emerged with several fertile innovation opportunities that are now being developed
